We're back From Market!!

Phew, what a long trip! We drove to Houston this year, the 3 K's and a Sherrie! Our journey took us from Georgia, through Alabama and Mississippi, to Louisiana on Day 1.

We actually had time to stop at a few quilt shops along the way! First, we stopped at Robin's Sewing Shoppe in Birmingham. It was a cute little shop, with lots of fun Alabama and Georgia treats.

Also, a row of vintage sewing machines, just for fun.

From Birmingham, we traveled to Montgomery and The Rose of Sharon which is not so much a quilt shop as a decorator shop. It was adorable.

We forgot to ask about this question on the window frame!

Cute vignettes were everywhere!

This is Sharon and she was such a delight to talk to!

These are the workhorses of her business. Loved them!

Sherrie, Karen, Sharon and Karen. Good night, above! How on earth can we keep everyone straight?!

We had a yummy lunch at Martin's in Montgomery, meat and three, on Sharon's recommendation.

The next morning found us in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Quilts Bayou. What a fun play on words!

It was a great shop, with friendly staff. We had a lot of fun there.

Gorgeous quilt and quilting!

This made me giggle just a bit.

Thanks, girls, it was a blast!

Some of the beautiful scenery from the car window!

It's kind of

hard to get

a good photo

from inside the car!

Our first shop visit in Texas was to The Painted Pony and Quilts in La Porte.

A wall of sweetness- Sunbonnet Sue!

Festive fall decs.

And a ladder full of wool!

Just down the street from the shop is Galveston Bay! It was a gorgeous day and you could see forever!

Karen had fun pointing out the oil rigs!

The long pier.

This little seagull allowed me to get very close to him, probably because he was hoping I would give him a treat. Alas, I had none and he flew off in a huff. :(
Our next stop was at the Quilter's Emporium in Stafford, TX.

It was a charming shop, full of lovely quilts and stitchery. I loved how it was a bit primitive in feel with a pop of modern. Cute shop.

Lots of sweet details here.

A sweet tomato sewing machine cover from Happy Hollow. Wait until you see what we got from them! You are going to love them!

Stitch, stitch, stitching one's way to happiness.

Close up of an incredible 25 patch quilt with 1/2 inch squares! Seriously?

Our last shop of the day was The Quilter's Cottage in Richmond, TX. It was a bright and sunny shop housed in three little cottages along the roadside.

You know we had to get a shot at the door!

A lovely Texas star quilt hangs in the front hall.

And sweet stitching adorns the walls.

A mind-bending bargello!

Quilter's Cottage had a bit of a general store feel to it. This drawer full of trim made me think I should have been dressed in a skirt and petticoat!

We made it to our hotel, checked in and headed out to La Madeleine's for dinner. Chicken friand, anyone? We popped into The Chocolate Bar for a little treat for the end of our day. Nope, we didn't get the popcorn. We went for the sinful chocolate ice creams- chocolate mint, chocolate with cranberries and almonds, chocolate toffee, you name it, they had it!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's coverage of schoolhouse and the market floor. I know you won't want to miss it!

Retreat, Retreat and a Road Trip!

This past weekend was the AST Fall Quilter's Retreat! The Stitch Lounge was a hive of activity, chatter and, what else, food!

We slimmed back the number of spots to give each retreater maximum space in which to work. I think they really appreciated it!

Susan, Jill, Sherrie and Charla demonstrated products from the Squedge ruler to Wonder Clips, because you can never have too many quilting gadgets. Ever.

The projects ranged from small to large, and for gifts or charity. Quilters are the best people.

It's always fun to see what they are working on!

I bet this is going to be something special.

And so is this!

We are almost finished with the big Switch Around! New products are coming in to add a little color and pop to the shop, like these beautiful Creative Notions bags that fit your Baby Lock machines!Portability does make for a happy quilter.

The shop is nice and open, bright and cheery.....

something fun at every turn.....

just to make your visit with us a happy time.

Because we really like you.

We've had great feedback about the new layout

it seems to be a home run!

Phew, boy am I glad about that.

We've had a few of our friends come by with their finished projects lately. This is Crystal with her version of The Quilt Company's Sew Spooky quilt. How stinking cute is that? We don't have the pattern at the shop but it can be found here.

Come on by and show off your talents? We'll share them here on the blog so everyone can see your gorgeous work. It's nice to be appreciated.

Karen, Karen, Sherrie and me, Karin, are off to Quilt Market this week! We'll be packing up Karen's car, laying out the map and stopping at a few shops along the way. It's going to be so much fun. We are so excited and have lots of fun and surprises in store for YOU! Be sure to check your e-mail, our Facebook page and, hopefully, here. I am going to try and blog from market. Fingers crossed!!

See you next week. We'll be the ones with the Kolache factory bags in our hands. ;)
