Winter Solstice

Happy Winter Solstice Day!

Even though most people don't even know what Winter Solstice is, we're dedicating a blog post to this day to tell you all about it!

Winter solstice is an astronomical phenomenon marking the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The winter solstice itself lasts only a moment in time, so other terms are used for the day on which it occurs, such as "midwinter", or the "shortest day". It is often considered the "extreme of winter," although not here in Georgia where its in the 60's and 70's! Many cultures have special celebrations or other ways of memorializing this day.

As our way of celebrating, we're highlighting this Cozy Quilt Pattern called Winter Solstice! This pattern is specifically designed for 2 1/2 inch strips and can be made in multiple sizes. "In classic Cozy style, the pattern is easy and intricate. Use strips to make your flower block, and then by adding two simple star points to the corner, the blocks come together in a bright burst that lights up the shortest day of the year, winter solstice!"
